Toshiko Uchima

Toshiko G. Uchima, 96, of Laupahoehoe, died Aug. 30, 2021. Born in Ninole, she was employed as a clerk at the former Hamakua Sugar Co., and was a member of the Papaaloa Hongwanji.

Friends may call for visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Oct. 29 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo; private service to follow.

She is survived by son, Eugene Uchima of Hilo; brothers, Masanobu (Yoshiko) Gusukuma of Kailua, Oahu, and Yasu Sugiyama of Hilo; sister-in-law Yoshiko Gusukuma of Pepeekeo; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews

Henri Fretias

Henri “Chico” Freitas, 62, of Hilo, died Sept. 12, 2021, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 1959, in Kealakekua, she was a motor vehicle registration clerk for the County of Hawaii and was the proprietress of Henri Freitas Tax and Business Service LLC in Hilo.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30 for a drive-through service at 118 East Palai St. in Hilo. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at Hope DIA-mend Ministries in Ocean View.

She is survived by son, Robert Freitas of Honolulu; daughter, Jennifer Pattioay of Hilo; one grandson; brothers, Henry (Dawna) Waiwaiole Jr. of Naalehu and Luther (Lei) Waiwaiole of Kawaihae; sisters, Eleanor Waiwaiole and Rebecca Waiwaiole of Honolulu, Sylvia Gnar of South Carolina, and Wendy (Jeffery) Fernandez of Kapaau; and numerous nephews and nieces.

How Sui Lam

How Sui “Lily” Lam, 74, of Kealakekua, died Oct. 5, 2021, at her family’s residence in Kailua-Kona. Born Feb. 10, 1947, in

Guangdong, China, she was the former owner of Hong Kong Chop Suey in Captain Cook and a member of the Hawaii County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

Friends may call at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Big Island Grill for a celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Yim Sin Lam of Kealakekua; sons, Michael (Carol) Lam and Alan (Wenting) Lam all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Kam Shui Kow of Hilo, Stella Yuen, Irene Chan, Kam (Jeffrey) Kahakua, Sandy (Bryan) Caldwell, Kammie (Jody) Char, and Kam Oi (Chris) Wigen; brother, Hon Ming (Lani) Wong all of Kailua-Kona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Tehero

William Tehero, 85, of Hilo, died Oct. 17, 2021, at the Saito Care Home in Kealakekua. Born May 16, 1936, in Hilo, he was retired from Global Associates working as a coordinator in Kwajalein, a retired carrier for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, U.S. Air Force veteran and member of the Marine Corps Muster Rolls, 1798-1958 15th Infantry Battalion Mcr., Marine Corps Volunteer Reserve 14th Mcrd, Mb USNB Pearl Harbor Th in San Francisco, California.

Friends may call at noon Nov. 2 at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo for graveside committal service and military funeral honors; burial will follow.

He is survived by sons, Firmin (Junie) Tehero of Pepeekeo and William (Mindy) Tehero Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Terilynn (Terry) Nielson and Sheri Rose Pacheco of Hilo; brothers, Jose Tehero of Kauai, Patrick (Faye) Umalla of Honolulu and Daniel (Frances) Mendez of Oahu; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Priscilla Kahele

Priscilla Maile “Dolly” Kahele, 88, of Hilo, died Sept. 29, 2021, at her residence. Born July 29, 1933, in Hilo, she was a retired custodian for the state Department of Education and a member of the Gospel of Salvation Church in Hilo.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 9:30 a.m. service. Casual attire is requested. Burial will follow at noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

She is survived by sons, William Kahele of California and Phillip (Gizelle) Kahele of Hilo; sister, Myra (Edward) Boteilho of Kohala; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one hanai son; two hanai granddaughters; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Gale Rosa

Gale Emily Rosa, 62, of Pahoa, died Sept. 30, 2021, at her residence. Born March 27, 1959, in Hilo, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughter, Jamie (Brandon Batin) Araujo-Rosa of Hilo; sons, Joshua (Lana) Araujo-Rosa and Jacob Araujo-Rosa of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Rosaline (Burt) Takata and Sandra Berido of Hilo; brothers, Clayton (Patrick) Berido of Kona, Hilton Berido of Hilo and Neal (Lynne) Nitta of Maui; hanai brother, Kalei (Bill) Galario of Pahoa; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
